Birth
The Whale Conservation Front (WCF) was created in November 2006 to oppose the killing of whales for scientific research in Australian waters by the Japanese government. The WCF contends that the scientific research program undertaken by the Japanese government is little more than window dressing for a covert commercial whaling program driven by a manufactured cultural rationale.
Purpose
The WCF is an autonomys organization dedicated to the conservation of whales and total rejection of the need for a commercial whaling industry. The WCF rejects the need to hunt and kill any species of whale for research purposes and further questions the validity of disposing of waste whale meat –procured in the name of research– in a commercial marketplace.
Aims
The WCF’s primary mission is to use creative expression to raise the profile of whale conservation internationally, specifically targeting young people who are active in the creative industries and the arts.
The WCF aims to influence government policy through creative direct action focused on enforcing domestic and international laws banning commercial whaling in Australian Waters.
An invitation
The WCF invites you to join with us to create innovative campaigns which will enable whales to become preserved for future generations. Please visit the Campaign section to find out how you can be involved the Whale Conservation Front.
